PREPARE FOR WAR

Welcome to the reality of unrestrained Islamic rage.

With shock, tears, and prayers, we in Jerusalem have been watching for the last few hours the still unfolding devastations over the East Coast of the United States of America. May the hand of the Lord be extended with mercy and grace in the midst of this horrific suffering and chaos, comforting the afflicted, strengthening the rescuers, and saving lives.

We have a few comments for the intercessors at this painful moment:

A. The enemy may have overplayed his hand. The magnitude of this present American tragedy may have reached beyond what the enemy understands, as God will no doubt turn it to serve His purpose and promote His salvation as He did at Pearl Harbor in WW2. This event could be equated to the scriptural principle which says, “…the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.� (1 Corinthians 2:8 NASB) Perhaps, if the enemy knew what an awakened and angered America would be like, he would not have pushed her that hard.

B. The free world, with the United States of America at its helm, has been dealt a terrible wake-up call as to the murderous nature and spirit of Islam. Following the recent international sham in Durban, South Africa, where the Islamic world’s mentality was exposed as rarely before, this present blow should serve as a second witness to that same dangerous and treacherous reality. We pray that this wake-up call will be seriously heeded, and that appropriate strategies and responses be employed.

C. As gruesome sights of billowing smoke covering Manhattan were being watched with horror all over the world, with the fact that it was the World Trade Center (housing multitudes of international corporate headquarters) which is now buried under rubble with thousands of casualties, the fearful and mysterious tale of Revelation, chapter 18, comes to mind. I have neither clarity nor confidence to make any assertions in the matter, recognizing all the good and godly elements that the city of New York embraces, yet the visual reminders and economic scope of today’s tragedy are unique in their strange similarities to the ancient apocalyptic prophesy and deserve our inquiry and prayer.

D. An atmosphere of war is in the air, hopefully not physical war, but definitely one of spiritual intensity and conflict. As human authorities grapple for solutions and seek for the right response, so should the church tighten her attitudes and raise her standards. We pray that this international shock and suffering of multitudes will not be “wasted,� and that life will not go back to “business as usual� after the rubble is cleared and the dead are buried. Let the following verses strengthen your spirit:

“Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare a war; rouse the mighty men! Let all the soldiers draw near, let them come up! Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, ‘I am a mighty man.’ Hasten and come, all you surrounding nations, and gather yourselves there. Bring down, O Lord, Thy mighty ones.

“Let the nations be aroused and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, tread, for the wine press is full; the vats overflow, for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. The sun and moon grow dark, and the stars lose their brightness.

“And the Lord roars from Zion and utters His voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth tremble. But the Lord is a refuge for His people and a stronghold to the sons of Israel.� (Joel 3:9-16 NASB)
