God Said: "It's Time for the Church to Become DRUNK WITH VICTORY!"
Upsets and Underdogs
This is a season of upsets and underdogs, and we've especially witnessed this in sports lately. There have been more surprise victories in the last few months than I have seen in my lifetime. Every sports commentator in America has been aghast at how many underdog teams have upset the highest-ranking teams in the nation (like the Oregon State Beavers knocking off the #1 ranked powerhouse USC Trojans in college football!).
I believe we are going to see this more and more in the coming year of new beginnings for the Church. Many of us who have sown faithfully into the dreams of God will personally experience instantaneous, positive reversals that will shock our friends and family. The world will be left scratching its head saying, "How did that happen?" I tell you, God has been preparing us for this season for seven years!
Drunk With Victory
In March, I witnessed a crowd going wild after watching their favorite sport teams win on TV. I walked into Cousin's BBQ Restaurant and my attention was riveted on what I saw on the TV screen. It was a sports highlights reel that was playing short clips of the "March Madness" basketball playoffs. Each clip was a short snippet of several back-to-back victory celebrations. People were going absolutely wild with the joy of winning the victory. Three...two...one...it's good!!! The crowd goes wild!
The players and fans were jumping up in the air and falling all over each other, screaming, shouting, pumping their fists in the air, rolling on the floor, high fives galore, climbing up on the rim and cutting the net off, dousing each other with ice cold water and champagne, hoisting each other on their shoulders and dancing around, basking in the glory, falling back exhausted and ribbing each other saying, "Did you see that?!!" It was absolute pandemonium!
When I saw that crazy scene, one victory celebration after another, my first thought was "That looks exactly like our conferences!" Ha! I was stunned. I had never seen anything on secular TV that looked like the Church when we are filled with the presence and power of God (Acts 2).
Suddenly, the Holy Spirit spoke to me in that moment and said, "It's time for the Church to become DRUNK WITH VICTORY!"
These basketball players and fans were wildly and spontaneously celebrating the victory they had just won. They were absolutely DRUNK WITH VICTORY! There was no question about it, and ANYONE watching would instinctively know that they had just won a tremendous contest.
As the Lord is unfolding what it means for the Church to become DRUNK WITH VICTORY, here are a few insights:
1. VICTORY IS JOY. And joy looks like "something." Joy is not a religious concept, it is an acted out reality - a physical expression of happiness and delight; it's a "get up offa-yo-chair and DANCE" party!!!
2. BECOMING DRUNK WITH VICTORY MEANS BECOMING DRUNK ON THE HOLY SPIRIT (Acts 2, Ephesians 5:18-19).
3. JESUS HAS ALREADY WON THE VICTORY AND WE SHOULD BE CELEBRATING and PROPHESYING our own victory NOW!
Practice Winning
When the Lord first gave me the revelation about becoming drunk with victory, I began to ask Him, "What does this mean?" He immediately said, "PRACTICE WINNING!" And then He gave me a picture of my son, John Samuel's little league team.
You probably know that 7 to 8-year old boys are very emotional about their baseball. If things are going well in the game, they are excited and energetic; if they get behind much at all or even make one bad play, they drag their feet and their long faces around the field and can hardly muster the energy to swing the bat, much less win the game (they are so much like us).
The picture God gave me was this - what if I could get those young boys together before the game and tell them, "I've got good news for you boys: I already know what the score will be at the end of the game. We win 10-9 in the 5th inning! So just go out there and 'have fun!' Play the game!" What do you think it would do for their attitude and performance in the game?
Suddenly it dawned on me that this is the exact, literal situation we are in. Jesus has already won the victory for our entire lives and our job is to let the intoxicating wine of this fact permeate our minds and our bodies until we are saturated with faith and motivated to get out there and play the game knowing that we have already won! Our present circumstances have nothing to do with the outcome.
We are winners, and we have a choice to live like champions or to drudge through daily life as if we are battle fodder for the devil! No! We are Super Overcomers according to the Word of God! More than Conquerors, we are Kings and Priests, Co-Heirs with Christ! C'mon people! It is time for the Church to become DRUNK WITH VICTORY! Hallelujah! I'll say it's time!
Let's begin to celebrate wildly what Jesus has already won, and become drunker and drunker with the victory that we have in Him. Let joy and celebration and drunkenness in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2) be what attracts the world to us and give us the immediate fruitful harvest of thousands of onlookers being swept into this DRUNKEN VICTORY CELEBRATION. Everybody loves a party!
Start now by asking the Holy Spirit to invade your space and make you DRUNK WITH VICTORY. Practice winning every day. Live as if you knew you were going to win. Your whole life will change and everyone around you will notice and want to play. They will want to drink what you are drinking!

The Coming of Zion's King
"Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey...He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you, because of the blood of My covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. Return to your fortress, O prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you. I will bend Judah as I bend My bow and fill it with Ephraim. I will rouse your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece, and make you like a warrior's sword."
The LORD Will Appear
"Then the LORD will appear over them; His arrow will flash like lightning. The Sovereign LORD will sound the trumpet; He will march in the storms of the south, and the LORD Almighty will shield them. They will destroy and overcome with slingstones. They will drink and roar as with wine; they will be full like a bowl used for sprinkling the corners of the altar. The LORD their God will save them on that day as the flock of His people. They will sparkle in His land like jewels in a crown. How attractive and beautiful they will be! Grain will make the young men thrive, and new wine the young women."
