PierceA Worship Shift, Overcome Your Enemies and Gain a Heart of Momentum!

I love the teaching and revelation that is brought forth in each of the Issachar School classes. Robert Heidler and I just completed a course on "New Weapons for New Warfare." As we approach the end of a seven-year war season and prepare to begin a new war season with new levels of contention and resistance, we taught on the spiritual weapons we are given as well as the issues that we will face in the years ahead. During the class, I asked LeAnn Squier to share the following dream she had early on Monday morning:

"In my dream, a group of us were gathered in the living room of a house. A man dressed in a white t-shirt and jeans came through the front double doors with a black sniper's rifle which included a high-powered scope. He first pointed the rifle threateningly at the group, and then pointed it at me. In a quiet manner, I asked him if it would be okay if we worshipped. He nodded yes. As we worshipped, we entered into a different realm. We became totally aware of God's presence in the room and totally unaware of the man's presence among us. The presence of God in our midst eclipsed everything else in the room.

When we finished worshipping, the presence of God lifted and I could again see the room, the surroundings, and the man with the rifle still pointed at me. I had literally forgotten he was there while the presence of God was manifest; this man had been completely eclipsed by God's presence. I got up from the couch where I was sitting and walked gently over to talk to the man. I engaged him in a friendly conversation, and one of the other people with us joined in to talk to him. I looked down and noticed that he had laid his rifle down, and as I looked back up at him, a wide, relaxed smile had come across his face. I realized it had been a hostage situation and he was now, in a sense, disarmed." --End of Dream

Through this dream I hear the Lord saying, "Many enemies are in your midst and are even entering into the boundaries that I have given you. But I am calling you to come into this new place with Me so My presence fills the domain that I have given you. If you will begin to worship Me and allow your domain to be filled with My presence, then even the enemies that are targeting you will let go of their hostilities. They will be repositioned in your place of authority. This is a time when I am repositioning your enemies in your sphere of authority. If you will worship, then My presence will disarm the enemy's plan and that which the enemy had intent on doing, he will no longer be able to accomplish. Worship is key to My Harvest plan. Many of the enemies that I bring into your path will be converted and become subservient in your domain. This is an hour of DOMINION! Take dominion through worship!"

Lift Up Your Heads, O Gates

"Lift up your heads, O gates, and be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates, and lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in! Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah." Psalm 24:7-10.

Ancient gates and doors can be opened up or remain shut over individuals and families as well, releasing or holding back the move of God in our lives. In fact, as 2008 unfolds, the Spirit of the Lord is pleading with many to make more room for God. Yet lifting up those ancient doors often proves beyond our human strength and wisdom, which is why this revelation is offered in the form of a prayer to God who alone is sufficient for the task.

Born in Sin

We are all products of familial blood lines, and we all carry and display generational characteristics and life patterns which go back to past generations. Some of these are good, deserving cultivation and promotion; others are bad, needing to be crucified, denied and repented of as we pick up our cross and follow Jesus. There are both blessings and curses "running in our blood" and impacting our lives, and only by God's wisdom and strength can these ancient gates swing open or shut.

Knowing that no one is born into this world perfectly "clean" or untouched by our ancestors' sin and iniquity, David desperately confessed, saying, "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me." Yet, his spirit echoed God's love and devotion to us as he goes on declaring, "Behold, Thou dost desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part Thou wilt make me know wisdom. Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow" Psalm 51:5-7. Apparently, David understood that our new birth in the Messiah provides and calls for the transformation of our souls as well as the rebirth of our spirits.

Born in God's Image

According to basic scriptural instruction, man is a three part creature. We are a spirit being that has a soul and lives in a body. Just as our Heavenly Father is a triune God in His eternal and perfect existence, so also are we, His crown creation, fashioned as a three part being possessing spiritual, soulish and physical dimensions. These three "partners" are designed to coexist and cooperate as a single package of an individual life though they are distinctly different from one another and fulfill diverse functions according to God's purpose.

Reborn Spirit

As a Christian, according to Scripture, your spirit being (the part of you that can interact with God beyond space and time) was already justified at the point of faith. As it is written, "Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ," Romans 5:1. For the child of God, justification is a "done deal" when accomplished through real faith in the sacrifice of Jesus, and as such, it cannot be improved upon. Once accomplished, justification places the believer securely in the privileged status of a "son" before our Heavenly Father as we have been born into the family of God as a brand new creation.

Sanctified Soul

Yet, every child of God not only has to be born again spiritually through faith in the sacrifice of God's Son, but also to "be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth" Ephesians 4:23-24. While our spirit's new birth is an instantaneous and everlasting miracle that is anchored at the very moment we have first believed, the renewal of our minds (encompassing our souls) is a life-long process of healing, transformation and regeneration. It involves conviction, revelation, repentance and instruction in righteousness.

In blessing the Thessalonian disciples, the Apostle prayed that, "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Obviously, following our spiritual birth, our soul and body must also be impacted by God's power, but how?

Starting from that blessed day when our spirit was born again, the soul of the believer starts the process of sanctification. It is here that ongoing discipleship takes place, the constant washing of the water of the Word, the healing of our hearts from past wounds, the call to daily deny the self-life and the regeneration of our minds. As David sang, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way" Psalm 139:23-24.

In this life-long journey of sanctification, the "everlasting way" David longed for does not merely signify ancient paths. Rather, appearing in the original Hebrew text as "Derekh Olam," he points to the universal, timeless, and eternal principles of God that hold His creation (and us) together in wholeness. It is those divine principles that the Spirit of God is instilling into us as our souls are being sanctified.

Glorified Body

Thirdly, while your spirit has been born again and justified at the point of faith, and your soul is being sanctified as you go through life with Jesus, your body will be glorified at the very end of the age. Paul encouraged his disciples, saying, "For our citizenship is in Heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself" Philippians 3:20-21. In this, as well as in other Scriptures, we find a strong assurance that, last but not least, our bodies too will be raised up in power and glory as the third part of our triune person comes into conformity with our glorious Savior.

Healing Cycles for Our Hearts

Remember that while your spirit has already been justified by faith and your body will be glorified in the future, it is the sanctification of your soul that occupies your present life and fills your days with purpose as you mature in Christ. Understanding God's wisdom and intention in this "incremental sanctification," we can be better armed and comforted with longsuffering, patience and endurance as the cyclical nature of His healing circulates through our souls time and again. During these recurring seasons of cleansing, God is reaching deeper and deeper into our hearts as we grow into His likeness.

Some generational roots and familial patterns require a "number of visits" by the Divine Physician since only He knows how much we can endure each time He reaches deep to heal another wound, undo another lie, and bring His truth into our innermost being. May David's prayer be fulfilled over you, declaring: "Lift up your heads, O gates, and be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in!"
