Steve Shultz: "My PERSONAL Experience at the Movie 'ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING!'"

I was just with Matt Crouch in Los Angeles two days ago. As I shared with Matt my own experience while watching his newly produced movie just under two weeks ago, ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING, he asked if I would be willing to share with my readers my personal story.

While it's a personal story, I told him I'd be more than happy to tell you, our readers, about my reaction to this movie.

ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING is the splendidly-told story, pulled straight out of Scripture, and based on Tommy Tenney's historically-based novel Hadassah, who we, as Christians and those of the Jewish Heritage, also know best as Esther.

Esther (Hadassah) is a story about how the Jewish people are SUPERNATURALLY saved through the Sovereign placement by God of two particular people. God, in His wisdom, raises up two humble, yet "undercover" Jews--Mordecai and Esther, and places them in the courts of the King of Persia.

They are, or they become, willing to risk it all, including their own lives in order to serve God and save a great people. They find themselves in the right place at the right time in Persia, the most powerful nation on earth at the time.

While I knew the story of Esther, I was not prepared for the reaction I got, or the emotions I felt as I watched ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING.

As the story unfolds (and I hope you'll go see it), Esther finds herself in both the enviable and yet dangerous position of being the one person in the whole of Persia who can save the Jewish people from possible extinction.

WHAT HIT ME WAS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED

While it might be said that with a budget not equal to the normally hundred million dollar Hollywood film, by and large, this film was well done, and well-acted, and starred such Hollywood greats as Omar Sharif, Peter O'Toole, and many others.

Rather than ruin the end of the film for you, please just let me tell you this--I was completely, utterly, and totally UNPREPARED for what the Holy Spirit would do with this movie in me. As it neared the end, tears began to flow. As the ending came, and the credits rolled, the theatre emptied out...

...then as it only happens to me once or twice a year, I began to come undone. My wife asked me, as we sat in the theatre alone, "Are you ok?" I tried to tell her, "Yes, I'm ok," and tried to tell her that it was, "good" (what I was feeling), and I tried to explain to her WHY it was good. But I couldn't get the words out.

I sat there and simply came undone, and went into what I would call almost uncontrollable weeping...even intercession--For the Jewish People; For Christians; For all of us, as we wait on God for deliverance from our enemies.

What God can do through a film when the Holy Spirit is on that film, goes far beyond special effects and acting. It goes into the arena of the spirit--The HOLY SPIRIT.

All the way home, as I tried to tell my wife what I was feeling, I simply couldn't get it out. I broke down weeping every time I tried.

If God would do this for the Jewish people, His Chosen people, then would HE not do the same thing for me? He simply must be willing to do this for me! It's too obvious in the film.

As Matt Crouch and I talked, he told me of all the people who were writing him and sharing similar stories. While I must be honest and tell you it didn't seem to hit my wife nor anyone else in the theatre like it did me, I can only tell you that "here and there" God has a timed response for certain people with this particular film--a response that is over the top for people like me I suppose. Matt told me many people were calling it a "love letter to the Jewish People."

No, you don't have to shed even one tear to get the message. The message will stand on its own. God is God and HIS words ARE SPIRIT. Therefore HIS STORIES are SPIRIT and they are LIFE.

But for those who happen to get that little extra zap of "experience" or "the feelings of infirmity" that the Jewish and Christian people sometimes feel, it's a very bitter and yet simultaneously, very sweet experience. Mainly it's sweet.

Please, if you still can, go see this film. Don't worry that the budget wasn't as high as some Hollywood films. Allow your spirit to tap into what the HOLY SPIRIT is saying through the story of Esther, "ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING."

It's all about FAVOR--and I don't know even one person on this earth who doesn't long for ONE MOMENT of greater favor from the KING OF KINGS.
