Kathi Pelton: "Moving
From Lack
To Gain"

The Season of
Tests
Everywhere I have traveled over the past
months, I hear stories of how God is testing His people. I too, feel like I have
been in a season of testing and refining. In seasons like these, though they can
be hard, I get excited because I know that with the passing of tests, we are
given greater authority and release, and become more like Jesus in our character
and lives.
The key is to pass the tests. I am always
amazed how in these seasons, God gives us numerous times to pass the test.
Rather then failing us on our first try, He gives us the answer sheet, and then
lets us try again and again until we get it right. What a merciful God!
Fervently Pray
Last week while I was praying, the Lord
asked me a question. The question was, "Kathi, how do My
people posture themselves when they have a need, but lack provision or the
answer?" That wasn't a hard question to answer for someone who lives on
mission support, and often faces this dilemma. I answered, "We fervently pray!"
The Lord then responded to me by saying, "What if you had
everything you needed, for everything you desired to do, would you still
fervently pray?" This question I couldn't answer so quickly. I began to
think of what motivates me to pray. Is it lack and need, or a pure desire to
know the will of the Father, and to only do what He is doing? I honestly could
not answer the question with 100% certainty.
I have a deep commitment to never initiate
something for God, but only to obey as He initiates. But as I looked back over
the past year, I could pin-point a number of times when an opportunity arose,
where I initiated the next move without "fervent prayer," and on a couple
of
occasions without any prayer.
He Wants to Trust Us with Gain
I began to realize that my season of
testing was because the Lord desires to make me trustworthy with "GAIN," rather
then just lack. But lack has been instrumental in getting me to my knees to
seek His face and His will. It seems that God wants us to take that same
posture, even when we have all that we need (in resource, finances, authority,
favor, opportunities, etc.) to do many things.
I really had to stop and wonder how many
times when I had enough money, did I stop to fervently pray about what I should do with
it--spending the time I needed to seek the will of the Father on the matter?
Don't get me wrong, of course I pray and seek His will in my daily decisions,
but not to the same degree as when I am in lack or need.
I feel the Lord is wanting to trust us with much. Not just financially, but
with much more authority, opportunity, favor, influence, miracles, signs, and
wonders. Will we stay on our knees and pray fervently, always seeking His will,
allowing Him to initiate what we do with our resources and our influence? I am
asking Him to make me trustworthy with much...as I've been entrusted with
little. Now I want to agree with Him, in all that He desires to do through His
body, by giving us much.
Let's Ask and Pray to be Trustworthy
This month, begin to ask the Lord to make
you trustworthy with "Gain." Commit to staying on your knees in prayer, even when
the pressure of need and lack aren't forcing you to the ground. It is the
commitment of a willing heart that brings Him pleasure.
James 5:16 (Amplified) says, "The earnest (fervent,
heart-felt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power
available--dynamic in its working." 1 Corinthians 4:2 says, "Moreover, it is
essentially required of stewards that a man should be found faithful--proving
himself worthy of trust."
I feel as though the Lord desires your willing hearts to come before Him,
and for you to present your lives to Him. He desires to trust you with the treasures of His
Kingdom and the mysteries of God. May we pray because we love to walk with Him,
both in little and in much.
Blessings,
Kathi Pelton
