"A
MOST IMPORTANT MAN"

 There
are just a few world leaders today that I consider crucial to the
outcome of world affairs.
Certainly, the policies and
actions of President Bush, or to a lesser degree, Prime Minister
Tony Blair affect untold millions around the world; Vladimir Putin
of Russia and Chinese President Hu Jintao are also pivotal players
in the unfolding of world events. These individuals, by virtue of
their positions of influence alone, are in obvious need of faithful
and visionary intercession.
President Musharraf,
President of Pakistan
Yet, in my opinion, there is
another man whose role is more crucial than all. That man is Pervez
Musharraf, President of Pakistan. Pakistan is a nation of
160,000,000 people, 97% of whom are Muslim. Within its Islamic
culture, there are millions of jihadists zealous and ready to die for Allah. Of all
nations on earth, Pakistan needs a stable, noble leader to keep its
radical population in check. A revolt or absence of balanced
authority in Pakistan’s leadership would be catastrophic for one
primary reason: Pakistan already has nuclear weapons.
In spite of pressures and
threats from Islamic radicals, President Musharraf has been a
courageous ally in the war against terrorism. His army has been
responsible for killing or capturing hundreds of al-Qaeda fighters,
many of whom were important leaders in the terror network. Musharraf
himself has been miraculously protected from several bomb attempts
on his life.
Civil rights groups criticize
Musharraf for not relinquishing his position as commander in chief
of Pakistan’s armies and for not allowing national elections to
select a challenger to his presidency. Yet, Musharraf has served his
nation well seeking to end Pakistan’s long conflict with India as
well as reaching in peace toward Israel.
Because of the crucial
conditions in the world and the
increasing
discord among of Pakistan’s radicals,
hardly a day passes without me standing in prayer for Pervez
Musharraf. Indeed, there have been many nights when Holy Spirit has
awakened me with only Musharraf’s face before me, compelling me to
intercede for his life and position to remain secure.
Today the
Lord has urged me to pass this prayer need to you:
If Musharraf is removed from
power, these radicals could possibly gain access to weapons of mass
destruction.
Finally, President Musharraf is
a moderate Muslim. As a child, he attended Saint Patrick's High
School in Karachi and graduated from Forman Christian College in
Lahore. He is a man who can play a significant role in the cultural
modernization of Pakistan and perhaps even help open up Islam
itself.
He is a man of extreme
importance in the purposes of God and vital to the resolution of the
crises of our times. I urge you, therefore, to stand before God in
prayer for this man.
