Kim Potter: The One My Soul Loves

Kim Potter, Dayton, Tennessee

Jesus and the Season of Love

As I was thinking about Valentine's Day, my thoughts continually went to a Scripture I love. It is found in Song of Solomon 3:4. It says, "I found him whom my soul loves. I held him and would not let him go" (NAB).

To celebrate Valentine's Day, people all around the world buy roses and gifts and make dinner plans for the ones they love. That is a good thing. I would certainly not want to take away from that.

Yet, I can't stop thinking about our Lord in all of this. And I can't stop thinking about that Scripture: "I found him whom my soul loves. I held him and would not let him go" (Song of Solomon 3:4 NAB).

I wonder today, is this what Jesus is to us?

Do We Love Him for Him?

Do we see Him as a wonderful treasure we have found and refuse to let go of? Are we holding on tightly to Him and His Word? Or is He an afterthought? Is He someone we turn to only when we need help with something? (Photo via Pexels)

I don't know about you, but I don't care for people coming to me only when they want something. If a person is important to me, I want a relationship with them. I want to know them, to trust them, to be able to rely on them, and for them to be able to rely on me.

Two Hearts Beating As One

As I pondered all this, I remembered an article I once read about hearts beating as one. It was a medical article. A doctor had two separate hearts in his hands, one in each hand. They were each beating at a different rhythm. However, when he touched the two hearts together, their beats synchronized and began to beat in unison, as one heart.

I love this story. I want my heart to beat as one with the One I love—with Jesus... with the Father... with Holy Spirit. Therefore, I must allow His heart to touch mine and make sure that my heart touches His.

Being with Him

How do we do that? By spending time with Him daily—not just in prayer time, or listing our needs and wants, but through spending intimate time in His presence, just because we want to be with Him.

Instead of asking for things, spend time in His presence thanking Him for who He is to you, for what He has done for you. Love on Him.

He doesn't want you just coming to Him when you need something. He wants a relationship with you. He wants to be part of your day, and part of your night. He cares about every little thing that concerns you; let Him into those things. (Photo via Pexels)

Celebrate His Unfailing Love

"The one whom my soul loves." Have you found Him? If you have, hold tight and never let go.

Today, amongst the flowers and the candy, remember to let Him know how very much you love Him, and how thankful you are for His Word.

After you have blessed HIM, be sure to be a blessing to someone else. Let them know you love them, you appreciate them, and that you care.

Pray with me: We love You, Lord! You ARE the one our soul loves. We hold tight to Your faithfulness and Your unfailing love.
