Christa Elisha: Jesus Is Rabbi in Relationships

Christa Elisha, Oxford, Ohio

One Revolutionary Question

The Lord asked me a question that not only saved my marriage but totally revolutionized how I posture my heart towards others during conflict. His question exposed why pride is the gateway to relational destruction and why the humble, low road is the highway of holiness that leads to true relational equity and authority.

In full transparency, it was after a tiff with my husband when I was praying for the Lord to please help our ability to communicate and understand each other. It felt like we kept missing each other's heart in the heat of hurt emotions, and those emotions just kept escalating. We decided to take a break to pray individually and agreed to talk again afterwards.

I settled into the secret place and poured my frustrations out.

"Do You Know Why I Hate Pride?"

Then the Lord asked me a question that changed everything: "Christa, do you know why I hate pride?"

Suddenly, convicted of my behavior when I was in the conversation with my husband, I responded, "No, Lord. Please teach me."

He answered, "When you look at My engagements with humanity, I am always, first and foremost, Rabbi. I am a teacher (John 13:13). I hate pride because a prideful person is unteachable, and an unteachable person is not open enough to receive a new mind—one transformed into My image (Romans 12:2) that thinks My thoughts and sees what I see and believe about others. "Pride closes itself off in defensiveness and defiance, driven by the fear of being exposed or made to look foolish. Ego puffs itself up to protect insecurity. Pride always reveals the fractures in a person's understanding of who they are in Me. When your identity is uncertain, pride becomes your armor (James 4:6)."

The Strength of Humility

The Lord continued: "But humility is strength of character on full display. It is confident enough to learn, secure enough to listen, and grounded enough to grow. Humility reveals a heart that knows it is already loved, already chosen, and already established in Me, and therefore has nothing to prove (Philippians 2:3–5).

"This humility is what allows a person to receive true wisdom and walk in relational intimacy. Only when your guard is down can you see and know Me. And when you truly see Me, you are able to truly see and know others. And when you see others rightly, you are able to be seen, known, and celebrated appropriately in Christlike community.

"It is that wisdom that gives you the ability to rule and reign in life, to oversee people and systems with deep, multifaceted understanding, just as I do (Proverbs 4:7; Ephesians 1:17). This is My manifold wisdom in action, appearing as a full-circle rainbow, crowning those whose minds have sat in the counsel of the Almighty (Ephesians 3:10; Psalm 89:14).

"Humility is restrained authentic power. Pride is counterfeit unauthorized power.

"Pride may make the insecure feel powerful for a moment, but in that moment they are exposed to be the most foolish. Rest assured, every crocodile crown is made of fool's gold (Proverbs 16:18). Your true mettle is always revealed in your heart posture before God and before those you struggle to understand (Proverbs 4:23; Matthew 11:29)."

A Teachable Heart Brings Breakthrough and Transformation

The Lord concluded with this tender exhortation: "Continue to be teachable, My child. For I delight in those with a teachable heart. If you lack wisdom, come and ask of Me, and I will give generously without reproach (James 1:5). Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will reveal great and unsearchable things you do not yet know (Jeremiah 33:3). For the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding" (Proverbs 9:10). (Photo via Unsplash)

Friends, this word pierced my heart and transformed my perspective. After receiving this revelation, I approached the conversation with my husband from a completely different posture, one of humility and teachability. The breakthrough was immediate and profound.

The Lord is calling His Bride to lay down her prideful armor and pick up the strength of humility. In this hour, He is raising up a people who understand that true Kingdom authority flows not from self-protection but from security in our identity as beloved sons and daughters.

Responding to His Call

Prayer of Activation:

Father, I repent of every place where pride has built walls in my relationships. I lay down my need to be right, my fear of looking foolish, and my defensive postures. Clothe me with the humility of Christ. Make me teachable, Lord. Open my eyes to see others as You see them. Grant me Your manifold wisdom that I might walk in true relational authority and build Kingdom community that reflects Your heart. In Jesus' name, amen.

Here are some practical steps:

1. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas where pride is hindering your relationships.

2. Practice active listening without formulating your defense.

3. When conflicts arise, take a prayer pause before responding.

4. Daily declare your identity as beloved, chosen, and established in Christ.

5. Cultivate a learner's heart by asking questions instead of making assumptions.

The highway of holiness is paved with humility, and those who walk this low road will find themselves elevated to places of true Kingdom influence and relational authority.

Will you join the humble revolution?
