What God Is Saying About the Hebrew Year 5786
As I was in prayer, the Spirit of the Lord drew my attention to the number six. In Hebrew, every number carries meaning, and I discovered that six is the letter vav—the hook, the peg, the nail.
Immediately, I asked the Lord, "Why are You highlighting this?" And I sensed that 5786 will be a year of great shaking, yet also a year where the Lord Himself will stabilize His people. He is preparing His remnant, assuring them that while the storms rage and the nations tremble, He will secure His people as pegs, fastened in His covenant purposes.
A Year of Securing and Removing
The peg (vav) is the core theme for this year. A peg represents stability, permanence, and anchoring. Just as a tent cannot stand without pegs fastening it into the ground, so the Lord says His people will be secured in Him while the world remains in upheaval.
In contrast, the Lord also declares a prophetic shift: the pegs of the enemy will be uprooted, but the pegs of Zion will be strengthened (Isaiah 22:23; 33:20; 54:2). What the enemy thought would stand will be removed; what God secures will remain unmovable.
Scripture gives us powerful pictures of this reality. In Isaiah 22, Shebna (a self-serving official in Hezekiah's court) was removed from his position of influence, while Eliakim was clothed with authority and established as a peg in a secure place. Again, in the days of the Assyrian assault, King Sennacherib threatened to uproot Jerusalem and exile its people. But the Lord declared, "Look at Zion... a tent which will not be folded; its pegs will never be pulled out, nor any of its ropes torn apart" (see Isaiah 33:20). And in one night, the angel of the Lord struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers (Isaiah 37:36). God proved that Zion's tent was secure and its pegs immovable.
The Shaking Is Not for Destruction but for Strengthening
In this year, shaking will not cease. The Lord has already spoken: "Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens... so that what cannot be shaken may remain" (Hebrews 12:26–27 NIV). And again, in Haggai: "I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory" (Haggai 2:7 NIV). The shaking is not for the destruction of God's people but for their strengthening. It is how He realigns nations, exposes corruption, and reveals His glory. The Hebrew year 5786 will bring storms, persecution, psychological warfare, and continued threats on the global stage, yet those anchored in God's covenant love will stand.
The name Elohim—Creator, Judge, Sovereign—carries the numerical value of 86. That means this year carries the weight of God's judicial authority. He will issue verdicts. He will pull down Shebna-like structures of pride and establish Eliakim-like leaders who will steward His authority. He will silence Assyrian voices that mock, intimidate, and offer false peace. He will prove again that His people's pegs are firm and will not be uprooted.
A Year of Expansion
This will also be a year of expansion. "Enlarge the place of your tent; stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not; lengthen your cords and strengthen your pegs" (Isaiah 54:2 NASB1995). The shaking will make room for growth. The storms that were meant to uproot will instead stretch God's people, enlarging their capacity and strengthening their anchors. This is a year for evangelism, missions, and new expressions of worship and unity across the earth.
On a global scale, the Lord says, "I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army" (Ezekiel 38:4 NIV). Nations will be drawn into conflicts they did not expect. Alliances will shift, wars will intensify, and yet the Lord says, "This is My hand orchestrating history, pulling nations into place to reveal My holiness before the world." What looks like chaos is divine strategy.
A Year to Come Back to the Messianic Peg
Above all, this year points us back to Jesus Himself, the Messianic Peg.
"From Him shall come the cornerstone, from Him the tent peg." (Zechariah 10:4 ESV)
"For a brief moment grace has been shown from the Lord our God, to leave us an escaped remnant and to give us a peg in His holy place." (Ezra 9:8 NASB)
"This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls." (Hebrews 6:19 NLT) (Photo via Pexels)
Christ Himself is the secure peg, the anchor behind the veil, and the only one who can hold His people steady when everything else is shaken.
Prophetic Word for 5786
"As you enter the year 5786, be reassured: the hook of My love, My covenant, will never let you go, even through gusty storms and unexpected upheaval. In this new year, do not rely on your own strength or on what has worked before. What once held you will not necessarily hold in the coming storm. Hold on to Me, and I will fasten you like a peg in a secure place. I will never let go of your hands. I will lift you until the storm passes.
"I want to be your hiding place, your refuge, the peg that stabilizes you in My presence. Despite the gusty winds, you will be steady; I will hold you tight and secure you in My covenant promises. Not so with the wicked. You will see their pegs uprooted and their legacy folded away, but My people will be unshakable, immovable, and securely anchored.
"This is a year of connection; what has been declared over you in Heaven will be revealed on earth. This will be the year to experience the power of My name, Elohim. Watch Me remove the pegs of corrupt structures and silence false voices. I am raising the tent of My people. Even amid continued persecution and the rising number of martyrs, their tents will not be uprooted, and their pegs will not be pulled out. My justice will silence the spirit of intimidation and establish My people in covenant security.
"This is the year I will use storms and gusty winds to enlarge you, stretch you, and strengthen your pegs. The enemy will try to uproot your covenant anchors; instead, I will strengthen them, making room for growth, expansion, and harvest. I will place hooks in the jaws of the enemy, pulling their legions into conflicts that reveal My sovereignty and judicial authority over the nations. Expect global alliances and wars to intensify, but recognize that I AM orchestrating these events to display My holiness to the nations. I am pulling nations into position for My purposes.
"I am releasing My divine pegs. Watch, as everything shakes you will be unshakable, because you are anchored in Me, and I will fill this year with My glory. This is the year to hold on to Me more than ever. I am your true peg and anchor—a strong and trustworthy anchor for your soul. I am the covenant peg. Those who remain in Me cannot be moved. As storms arise and structures shift, cling to Me as I cling to you. This is My promise: you will be unshakable, and you will achieve beyond your wildest dreams."
