Mandy Adendorff: Why Charlie Kirk Was a Martyr & What This Means for Us

Mandy Adendorff, New England

A True Christian Martyr

Word released on September 13, 2025:

Charlie Kirk was a true Christian martyr. This was no normal assassination. Assassination is evil, but there is something different about this murder. After I received the news, I knew in my spirit that Charlie was martyred, but intellectually it didn't seem to fit the traditional idea of Christian martyr. I asked the Lord, and immediately I heard in my spirit, "John the Baptist."

John the Baptist is considered a martyr, but his martyrdom was unusual. His assignment was to reveal the Lamb of God to the world (see John 1:7), and yet he was not murdered for proclaiming Jesus as the Lamb of God. I don't think his killers cared what John thought about Jesus; he was killed because his faith intercepted with culture and his bold voice was offensive.

John the Baptist's faith intersected with human life issues, and he spoke God's truth about human issues into a situation that offended people. They happened to be political leaders, which was interesting. Nevertheless, it would seem that his death was a surprising way for this man to die, since his main ministry was revealing Jesus—the Lamb of God—but he spoke into the issues of that day. And this was probably not the only issue he spoke into, but it was remembered, because it was the catalyst for his death.

Charlie was an evangelist whose faith intercepted culture in a creative way. He didn't preach in traditional tent meetings but reasoned and spoke into the lives and issues of people under a small tent designed for college campuses.

A Martyr's Reward

The morning after Charlie's murder, I didn't feel like reading Revelation (which was what I was currently reading), but the Holy Spirit nudged me to continue. As I opened to Revelation 6 (still heavy with questions about the martyr), before I could start at the beginning, my eyes fell to this verse: "Then a white robe was given to each of them" (Revelation 6:11 NKJV). This is the description of those who are martyred for their witness of Jesus Christ.

"When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, 'How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?' Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed." (Revelation 6:9–11 NKJV)

This is no small thing. We must, as the Church, recognize the gravity of the moment and understand the significance of this modern-day martyr. As far as I know, in our generation, this is the first Christian martyr to die on our watch in the U.S. It is a very sobering moment for the Bride, a time to mourn and weep. (Photo via Pexels)

How Do We Respond?

How do we respond as the Church to a brother who has been martyred?

The Lord's heart is heavy that Charlie's life was cut short. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints" (Psalm 116:15 NKJV).

Charlie's blood cries out from the ground, but his blood doesn't cry like Abel's blood cried. Vengeance is the Lord's assignment, not ours. Jesus' blood speaks a better word than Abel's blood.

"But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and Church of the firstborn who are registered in Heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel." (Hebrews 12:22–24 NKJV)

Both Abel and Jesus were murdered unjustly, but Jesus' blood cries, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34 ESV).

We are the children of the New Covenant. We hold our pain in tension with our constant reality that "there go I except for the grace of God" (read Hebrews 12:14–29 for more context). That doesn't mean justice must not happen, but it does mean that the Christian Church needs to address Charlie Kirk as a martyr. We have lost a true brother, a saint, no matter what your denominational affiliation. This should make us broken at the core.

A Shift Has Happened Overnight

What does this mean for America and the world?

The season changed on September 10, 2025. There are markers in history where an entire season shifts overnight, and that is what has happened.

You may not see it in the natural, but in the spiritual we have entered a new season. This is the season where the sons of God are being revealed.

Last year, the Lord showed me that there would be a revealing season where everything would be exposed. Not only would political issues be exposed, but there would be exposure at every level, which would and could be terrifying for everyone. But He showed me that there was mercy in the season for repentance. We are in that season right now, where much is being exposed in our own lives and people around us. (To read more on this, click here.)

A Time to Repent and a Time of Mercy

It is literally as if a wind has come to reveal the wheat and the chaff within our own hearts—a time for us to repent and a time of mercy.

The season change is marked with unusual grace for repentance. I personally went through a day of repentance when Charlie Kirk died. The Lord showed me things I never knew about myself, and I repented before the Lord. And the Lord did something very deep inside me. I then noticed that a popular, God-fearing Christian musician shared openly on social media that he had experienced a similar moving for repentance on his heart.

This is widespread. Widespread repentance is necessary. There's an urging of the Spirit. I was deeply needing to be with the Lord after Charlie Kirk's death, and it was to mourn but also to understand and to examine myself and repent. (Photo via Piqsels)

Repentance Is Followed by Bold Sunflowers

Repentance is necessary, because it is time for the sons of God to be revealed. When the Lord showed me last year about the revealing of the sons and daughters of God during the exposure, He used actual sunflowers to reveal this to me. The time for us to bloom is here.

While on an evening walk, thinking about Charlie's death, I suddenly remembered the sunflowers. I noticed the sunflowers everywhere. I hadn't noticed them before, but they were all over our town.

It's time for the sunflowers to be revealed. "For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God" (Romans 8:19 NKJV). The blood of the martyr is the seed of the Church, and a generation (or revivalists) has been born in a day. Mass repentance and heart change is here; a spirit of sobriety, bravery, and boldness can be felt globally.

Ask for Boldness

After Peter was threatened, he could have asked for protection; he instead asked for boldness.

"'Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable Your servants to speak Your word with great boldness. Stretch out Your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.'

"After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly." (Acts 4:29–31 NIV)

We are in that season. Now ask for boldness and miracles. This is not a season to shrink back but a season to rise and shine. God will give us the internal grace to not fear!

"'Death has been swallowed up in victory.'

"'Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?'" (1 Corinthians 15:54–55 NIV)

A seed has fallen. Seeds will fall, but sons will bloom.

"'Behold, the days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when the plowman will overtake the reaper and the treader of grapes, the sower of seed. The mountains will drip with sweet wine, with which all the hills will flow." (Amos 9:13 BSB)

The revival that we prayed for? It's here.
