"What We Think About Our City Matters to God"

The Key to Our City: What We Think About Our City Matters to God

Surrounded by the strong presence of the Lord while ministering in my hometown, Hagerstown, Maryland, I heard the Lord say something that surprised me. He spoke, "I feel at home in this town. I feel right at home. I have seen the welcome mat spread out for Me. I am going to use this town to do great things in this region and beyond. Take note that this is My town. Write that down!" (See Habakkuk 2:2-3 KJV.)

This reminded me, years ago, of when I asked a state trooper what he thought of our city. He said, "If you knew what went on in this city, you wouldn't be able to sleep at night." This troubled me, so later on I went to the Lord and asked Him the same question about our city—what He thought about it. He responded, "It's a great city, and I love the people in it. If you knew what I am up to in this city, you wouldn't be able to sleep at night, either, for the excitement of what's coming."

So, concerning the city where you live, what are you thinking?

"Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." (Jeremiah 29:7 NIV)

Don't Count on Numbers

Forty-five years in ministry has taught me that when I feel like quitting is when the Lord is using me the most. I just don't know it.

In the last year, I have struggled to put out a newsletter because of the lack of responses, but the Lord has kept nudging me to keep going.

Last week, in the midst of feeling like what's the use, came a response that riveted me to my chair. I wondered, Who am I? It was from the mayor of our city of Hagerstown, Maryland. I felt like checking my pulse (I think I did). My last newsletter [posted at the beginning of this word] had the title "The Key to Our City: What We Think About Our City Matters to God," and her hands had gotten ahold of it. It was an "only God" moment. I asked her permission to share her response, and she said, "Please do!" (Photo of Bill Yount and Mayor Tekesha Ann Martinez)

From Mayor Tekesha Ann Martinez: "Prophet Bill Yount, this is a revelation. I purchased 12 keys from a yard sale, just like this one—old keys. I believe it was five or six years ago. God had been speaking to me about this being HUB city. The hub of the Bible is Acts 2. There is a sound, and God assured me that no matter what it looks like or it feels like here, the ground is good. I once hated my home town, and He corrected me and in the midst—kept promoting me to show me His sovereignty.

"I needed this word—not that I was getting weary or have forgotten what He said. I needed the encouragement. God bless you, man of God! I pray our paths soon cross, in Jesus' name."

As you can read, she is a strong Believer in the Lord, which I didn't know. And she has invited me to her office.

To Those Who Are Weary

The reason I am sharing this is because, like me, many of you are weary and considering quitting. But who is telling you to quit? Is it the Lord or the enemy? Let me tell you, it's not God. He may be leading you into changing course in your calling, but be sure it's Him. And, like me, don't be guilty of counting the numbers.

I am convinced the Lord is using all of us Believers more than we know, and that's why the enemy is out to stop us. I think of how even Peter's shadow touching people brought healing.

"Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by." (Acts 5:14-15 NIV)

Since Peter's shadow was behind him, I wonder if he was even aware of what was happening? (My thoughts.) So when you feel like quitting, think again...your shadow might fall on some!
