The Sanhedrin Reestablished; Another Step in Fulfillment of End Time Prophecy?
This past Monday on
December 7, 2004, in Israel nearly 50 members of a newly reestablished Sanhedrin waited to
ascend the Temple Mount in Jerusalem - yet were barred as a group by officials
from doing so. They were given permission to ascend the temple mount in groups of 10,
which many refused to do. The highest Jewish-legal tribunal was inaugurated in October
for the first time in 1,600 years. Talmudic tradition declares the restoration of
the Sanhedrin after a partial return of Jewish exiles, but before completion of
a rebuilt Jerusalem. Elsewhere in the Talmud [the authoritative body of Jewish
tradition], the prophet Elijah is expected to present himself before the renewed
Sanhedrin to announce the coming (or the coming again) of the Messiah. For more

chose Hanukkah, also known as the Feast of Dedication (also known as the Festival
of Lights), to announce to the world that He had the authority to give ETERNAL LIFE.
That'll work for Christmas, if you ask me.

 FESTIVALS
OF LIGHTS IN JERUSALEM
PRAYER UPDATE FROM ISRAEL (DECEMBER 7, 2004): December 7th begun the eight-day Jewish
"Festival of Lights" or HANUKKAH. In Hebrew, the word "hanukkah" or "chanukah" (with
the "ch" pronounced on the roof of the mouth) simply means "a dedication" or "inauguration."
It is used in Numbers 7:10-11 for the dedication of the altar in the Tabernacle;
and a "Hanukkah Song" is mentioned in the title of Psalm 30, used by David in the
dedication of a house.
The Festival of Hanukkah commemorates the cleansing of the Temple in Jerusalem by
the Maccabees after the Syrian king Antiochus IV, Epiphanes, in 168 B.C. had erected
a pagan altar to the Greek god Zeus on the sacred altar in the Temple in Jerusalem.
The story of how Jehudah Maccabeus and his
Hebrew army recaptured Jerusalem and cleansed and re-dedicated the Temple is related
in the first four chapters of I Maccabees (Apocrypha):
"And when they saw the sanctuary desolate, and the altar prophaned, and the gates
burn up, and shrubs growing in the courts, as in a forest, or in one of the mountains,
yea and the priests chambers pulled down, they rent their clothes and made great
lamentation...fell down flat to the ground upon their faces, and blew an alarm with
the trumpets, and cried towards heaven" (I Maccabees 4:38-40).
They then cleansed the Sanctuary, rebuilt the
altar, and then, with worship and praise, "they kept the dedication of the altar
eight days, and offered burnt offerings with gladness, and SACRIFICED THE SACRIFICE
OF DELIVERANCE AND PRAISE" (I Maccabees 4:56; Emphasis ours).
THREE
AREAS TO INTERCEDE FOR REGARDING ISRAEL IN THIS TIME
As we enter into this joyous festival (Yeshua Himself was in the Temple during Hanukkah
--John 10:22), we ask you to join with us in three especial areas of intercession
regarding Israel:
1) Pray that "Light" would be shed into the spirits of
Jews in Israel and the Nations as they light a new branch of the special
Hanukkah candelabra each of the eight evenings (beginning December 7th).
Each evening the fire to light the old and
new branches is taken from a special 9th branch, which is called the "Servant" candle.
Read John 1:1-18 and pray that revelation would be given to Jews regarding the identity
of Servant, the "True Light" (verse 9) which gives light to every man!
2) Pray for the "hanukkah" of "Succat Hallel"
-- the Worship Watch ministry of Praise and Intercession about which we wrote in
our last Update. The night of youth praise was Wonderful...scores of youth came
and praised into the night. The following day multi-generational watches began,
and now, incredibly, worship, praise and intercession are going on "round the clock"
in Jerusalem, with believers from Israel and a number of nations participating.
The official "Dedication" or Hanukkah will be next Monday afternoon, in the midst
of the Hanukkah festival at the head of the Hebrew month of "Tevet." Many Israeli
pastors and spiritual leaders have been invited to attend. Please pray for God's
favor among them, regarding what He is doing. Pray for much to be released through
the prayers which they will pray.
Please pray that the Spirit which kept the
oil burning miraculously for eight days during the first Hanukkah, would fall and
fuel a continual "SACRIFICE OF DELIVERANCE AND PRAISE" (see Maccabees quotation
above) in that location, and that a zeal for purity and holiness like that of
the Maccabean priests and warriors of old would be released on all the worshippers
and intercessors whom God sends to take part in ministering before Him in this way
in Jerusalem!
3) Pray for a special Hanukkah Conference for Youth
which begins at a location just outside of Jerusalem this Friday afternoon and
continues through until noon on Sunday.
We thank you so for your prayers for the youth
a few weeks ago. We ask that you join with us in intensifying them for this conference.
It has turned into the most enormous youth retreat we've been involved with. There
are some 160 (!) youth signed up to attend, and 26 young adults to assist in oversight.
Around 40 youth are on a waiting list, unable to come because there is no more room.
It is an incredible blessing that God has raised
up so many responsible, zealous young adults to help. And the tremendous expenses
for renting buses, for training sessions for the young adults, and for accommodations
(the fee the youth pay only covers a small part) have been taken care of by a wonderful
outpouring from many sources within the country and without.
We know that there is so much that God is planning
to do, as these young Israelis gather to attend worship and praise and teaching
and workshops, and to just enjoy time together in fellowship with other believing
youth. Please pray specifically:
A. That all whom God has chosen to be there
will be able to come.
B. For safety for the two buses traveling about the country to pick up teens; for
order on the buses as they travel and for safety on the roads.
C. For focus on the part of the teachers, small-group leaders, worship leaders....that
none let down their guards, but that they continually "Hear what the Spirit is saying
to this young Body at this time." Pray also for health and protection in every way
so that all the leaders young and old will be able to attend!
D. For a framework of love, patience, affirmation, and wise and loving authority
in maintaining God's order and guarding His "atmosphere" throughout the conference.
Pray for angels to hold back spiritual darkness and to dislodge and scatter any
evil spiritual structures set against God's purposes for this gathering.
E. For the Spirit's guidance in coordinating and executing the myriad logistical
issues which such a conference necessitates.
F. That our Lord would lead the leadership in discovering a venue for future conferences
(Purim, Passover) large enough to accommodate all whom He would send of this awakening
generation of young Israelis.
G. For a NEW DEDICATION (HANUKKAH) AMONG THE YOUTH OF THEIR PERSONAL "TEMPLES
OF THE HOLY GHOST" AND A ZEAL TO KEEP THEM CLEAN AND HOLY, OFFERING UP SACRIFICES
OF DELIVERANCE AND PRAISE! PRAY THAT EACH WOULD RECEIVE A "NEW LIGHTING" BY THE
SERVANT CANDLE, YESHUA...JESUS!!
