"Religion Serves Man – Freedom Serves Me"
In prayer recently, as I was reflecting on and confessing the fears that so often keep me captive, I heard the Lord so clearly say to my heart, "Religion serves man. Freedom serves Me."
I knew there were so many layers of this concept to explore, and I asked the Lord to expand on this idea and help me understand.
"You Must Be Free to Serve Me"
"Control is not of Me," He said. "People must be FREE to serve Me. People in bondage cannot fully worship Me."
He reminded me of His word to Pharaoh, "...'Let My people go, so that they may worship Me'" (Exodus 8:1 NIV). The Lord has always needed His true worshipers to first be set free. True, uninhibited worshipers worship from a place of freedom. (Photo via Pexels)
If I am not free, then I am serving some other master that is putting me in fear, and the places of my heart held captive by fear are places that cannot be captivated by Jesus.
The Fear of Man
"When you are truly free, you will no longer serve man," the Lord spoke to my heart. My motivation must either be the fear of man or the fear of God, and I can never operate out of both fear of man and fear of God at the same time; it is always one or the other.
Religion is born out of the fear of man. Jesus purposefully broke the religious rules because religion does not serve God; religion serves men and keeps people in bondage so they are unable to enter the freedom that lends to true worship.
Religion Feeds on Fear
Religion thrives on the fear of man. This revelation rattled the scales from my eyes because I don't think of myself as being bound by religion, however, I am often bound by fear and I did not realize that these are often one and the same. If I make a decision to please a person – no matter how gifted or anointed or called that person is – instead of making my decision out of a desire to please the Lord, then I am operating in a spirit of religion. Decisions I make in fear are decisions made in the spirit of religion.
"I Want My People Free!"
Religion is not something I thought I needed deliverance from until the Lord showed me this connection between religion and the fear of man. I realized I do need deliverance! I need to be free from serving man so I can freely serve the Lord. (Photo via Pixabay)
Praise to Jesus, the One who was anointed to "set the captives free" (Isaiah 61:1)!
There is a new season that the Lord is proclaiming; it is a season of freedom. When free from fear, we will no longer have any Master but Jesus. We will not be in bondage again to fear. We will be a people unaffected by fear.
The Spirit of the Lord is declaring, "I want My people free!" Religious spirits, beware; hear my Warrior-King demand, "Let My people go, so they can serve Me."
Now is the season to break off the fear of man. We are not the people who cower in fear; we are the people who "turn the world upside down." Let us not forget who we are.
I hear the Lord singing songs of deliverance over us. It is time to walk out in the freedom Jesus won. No turning back, no more holding back...now is our jubilee!
