Demontae Edmonds: "When the Supernatural Becomes the Norm"

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve Shultz

It's one thing to desire earnestly to have supernatural experiences in your life.

But it's quite another profound thing to begin to experience them at the level you are about to read.

The testimony below should not be quickly scanned. Rather, read these true stories slowly and carefully, asking the Lord to give such experiences to you.

Do NOT try to duplicate these experiences. ONLY try to duplicate the holiness and prayerfulness that opened the door to them. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Enjoy!!

Prophetic word released on July 7, 2021:

Two days ago when I awoke, the Lord spoke to me, "There will come a time and season when the supernatural will become the norm within the Church." As I laid in the bed, the Lord reminded me of several unusual, supernatural events that took place within my life and ministry. Some of the things I have experienced with God I rarely ever share, for several reasons.

Firstly, one does not want to appear to be boasting. Secondly, certain encounters with God are very precious, like pearls of great value that are not to be cast or shared loosely. I believe sharing certain precious things outside of the timing or will of God can lessen the experience and lessen our intimacy with God. We must be good stewards of revelation but also supernatural encounters with God. Thirdly, I rarely share some of these accounts because when I think back on them, it is even difficult for me to believe, myself, that these things actually happened.

Oftentimes when we hear the word "supernatural," we think only of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (gifts of healing, prophecy, word of knowledge, etc.), healing and deliverance. I would like to share three personal accounts that will help stir up your faith for a greater personal experience with God. Even as I begin to type out these moments I'm provoked to jealousy, personally, to pursue God in greater ways. God's desire is that the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ at large would come into a deeper experience in the revelation and manifestation of the knowledge, ways and workings of God.

He Thought It Was an Angel

One night I was at home in prayer around 11 p.m. I didn't feel any particular anointing, burden or stirring during my prayer time. I began to pray for a friend who had been involved in a physical accident, which compounded when he fell on ice. Dr. Joe Martin, a powerful man of God who had traveled with T.L. Osborne and experienced great miracles in thirty nations within his own ministry, informed me earlier that day of the excruciating pain he was experiencing from this fall. His ribs had been broken while returning from a fishing trip in Norway.

As I began asking God to heal Dr. Martin, I had no inkling of what was about to happen next... I began to feel as if my body was vibrating, as if I was sitting on something that was vibrating and moving! The closest comparison in the natural world that I can think of would be the sensation one feels in a massage chair.

Suddenly, and without notice, I was standing beside Dr. Martin's bed in Norway. I touched his side and commanded the pain to leave in Jesus' name. Instantly, I was back on my couch. It happened "in the twinkling of an eye"!

The occurrence happened so fast that it took me a while to process what had just happened. I went to bed excited to share this experience with my wife, and also to contact Dr. Martin. The next day I contacted Dr. Martin and I asked, "How do your ribs feel today?" He responded, "I feel great; the pain has left me." Next I asked, "Did you sense someone standing by your bed last night?" He replied, "I sensed and heard an angel standing over me praying." I said, "IT WAS NOT AN ANGEL, IT WAS ME!"

Dr. Martin was no stranger to the miraculous or supernatural. He himself has been used in peculiar and unusual ways during his thirty-five plus years in ministry. Also, he knew there was no way in the natural realm that I could know the exact time and circumstances of "someone" standing by his bed praying for his side. We rejoiced in the fact that God had answered both of our intercessions for his healing. Glory to Jesus!

This type of supernatural occurrence may seem strange or unusual, but the Word of God makes known that these types of accounts are not far fetched. In 1 Kings we read about the prophet Elijah's run in with Obadiah who was a servant of King Ahab. Elijah had been a fugitive with a bounty placed on his head by King Ahab. He met Obadiah and informed him to go back and tell King Ahab the location of Elijah. Obadiah was afraid to do so. It was apparently not uncommon for Elijah to escape captivity and arrest by being taken away supernaturally by the Spirit of God. (Photo via Pxfuel)

"And now thou sayest, 'Go, tell thy lord, "Behold, Elijah is here."' And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the Lord shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me..." (1 Kings 18:11-12)

Obadiah knew it was not impossible nor uncommon for Elijah to experience this type of supernatural manifestation of being teleported or carried away from one location to another.

Light in the Middle of the Tunnel

In 2006, I was driving from Virginia Beach to Hampton, VA. I cannot recall my particular destination that day, but I remember I was praying fervently in my vehicle, as I often did during that season. On this particular occasion, as I prayed with more intensity, I could feel the nearness of God increase. Suddenly, it was if my vision went all white. I thought I was having issues with my eyes or vision, but flashes of white would fill my sight. This occurrence intensified until I could barely see the road that I was driving on. I then realized it was THE GLORY OF GOD.

I became fearful because I could now barely see out of my car window. The blinding white light of God's glory was flashing in my vision. My spirit was eager to keep praying and see what would happen next if I tapped in, but my soul was fearful of crashing. How could I drive and not crash if the Shekinah glory fully consumed my vision?

I stopped praying and managed to grab my phone on my seat and call the last phone number that I had dialed. My good friend Pastor Richard T Maples picked up the phone. I frantically asking him to pray for me. "The glory of God has filled my car and I'm driving through the tunnel. I don't know if God is about to take me but I don't want to crash. PRAY!" Richard, who is a great seer himself, began to intercede and pray for wisdom and revelation. He prayed until I made it through the Monitor-Merrimac Tunnel.

Although the awe of this experience and the intense feeling of being filled with the presence of God stayed with me the remainder of the day, I always wondered what would have happened if I had not yielded to fear. Nevertheless, God again revealed Himself and His ability to manifest at any place and any time. When we are hungry for God He will be faithful to fill us with His Holy Spirit.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." (Matthew 5:6)

A Supernatural "Sight and Sound" Show

It was 2008 and I was very hungry for the Lord. In addition, I lived alone and was not yet married or a parent. This afforded me a lot of quiet time with God, and I would pray in a little chair beside my bed before going to bed at night. One particular evening after a time of worship and prayer, the Lord spoke to me, "Go into your front room, lay on the couch and play Jason Upton." At that time, Jason Upton was one of my favorite worship artists and his music really connected with my spirit.

I obeyed God's voice, not expecting anything great or unusual. I thought God was going to use this moment to relax my mind as I was facing many financial and external obstacles at the time. I laid on the couch, lifted my arms and played "Glory Come Down" by Jason Upton. That night God gave me an amazing, intimate moment! What I'm about to share with the readers is still unbelievable and indescribable to me...

As I lifted my arms and focused on the Lord the presence of God enveloped me. The lyrics played:

Let Your glory and honor
Fall on our face
Holy Father
Rest in this place

Let the fire fall
Let the wind blow
Let the glory come down

Each time the words would play "Let the fire fall," I would feel the awesome sensation of burning or the fire of the Holy Spirit coursing through my body. Each time "let the wind blow" was sung, I would feel a literal small wind blowing in my living room. It was the wind of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2, the disciples heard "the sound of a mighty rushing wind." I didn't feel the sound of wind but certainly felt its presence.

Lastly, as the words would play "Let the glory come down," I would feel the weight of God's glory descend upon me, almost pressing me. This cycle of events happened several times until the song ended. I laid basking in the presence of God, awed by this spectacular, spiritual concert of sorts that God put on for me to reveal Himself in a deeper way in a response to my cry for intimacy with Him. I left this encounter more impressed and in love with the Lord Jesus. Also, the discouragement I was dealing with in that season lifted from my life. (Photo via Unsplash)

A Quick Lesson

I have told this story only a handful of times to a select few individuals. My wife is the only person before this writing that I have shared the entire account with. And in each instance, I never shared the particular musical artist or song. Oftentimes with experiences like these, people will read them and try to reinvent the same encounter or build a "monument." I myself tried to repeat this moment and nothing spectacular happened.

The principle of this supernatural story is more important than the details themselves. I had decided to live a holy life and pursue Jesus above all (even ministry). I believe this moment was God's response to my earnest pursuit of Him.

During the time of Jesus' transfiguration, Peter tried to build a monument to Jesus' encounter with God the Father, Moses and Elijah, overlooking the greater importance of the visitation. These types of moments have to be God-inspired, and God will personally orchestrate when, where and how He reveals His glory to individuals.

"And Peter answering said to Jesus, 'Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You wish, I will make here three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.'" (Matthew 17:4)

Wind, Fire and an Earthquake

Elijah, when he was on the run for his life from Queen Jezebel, was in desperate need for God to speak to him and strengthen him. He went upon a mountain to seek the Lord.

"And he said, 'Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord.' And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: and after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice." (1 Kings 19:11-13)

God also performed a supernatural "sight," "sound" and literal earth-shaking moment for Elijah to grab his attention. I believe He did not desire Elijah, or us, to be dependent upon such grand experiences, but to be familiar with His "still small voice." Although there is a normalcy coming to the supernatural, we must all have an intimate knowledge and relationship with the voice and leading of the Holy Spirit, which will help us to navigate day-to-day affairs.

7 Keys to the Supernatural

Below are not only keys, but 7 foundational principles that I believe increase the potential for God to move supernaturally in an individual's life:

1. Keep Jesus first and center.

2. Pursue holiness and pure living. "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord." (Hebrews 12:14)

3. Don't follow or worship "signs"—worship the One that the signs point to (Jesus).

4. Be quick to repent for wrongdoing, wrong thoughts or unbiblical actions.

5. Obey the voice of God.

6. Keep your faith in God. Don't allow the enemy to bring bitterness or unforgiveness into your heart.

7. Stay humble.

Prayer

Father God, we ask that You fulfill Your promise of the latter house being greater than the former house. We ask that the Lord Jesus and Your Word be made known in the hearts of men through supernatural encounters, deeds and acts. In Jesus' name we pray that the stories we read in the Bible, that are supernatural, would not just be fairy tales for us, but divine accounts that inspire us to live and walk as a supernatural Church. Amen.
