"Generational Deliverance - An Important Key to Healing"

by Paul Cox
Oct 7, 2004

A Note From Steve Shultz About Paul Cox:

Paul Cox may be the most effective minister of "deliverance" I've ever met. I put "deliverance" in quotes, because when he ministers to you (and I've sat in ministry with him several times), the last thing it FEELS like is "deliverance." Nevertheless, things change. Things happen. Generational curses are broken...all in what feels like two people having a quiet conversation. "That's that what I'm taking about!" -- Steve Shultz, THE ELIJAH LIST

"Generational Deliverance - An Important Key to Healing"

"She had always been afraid of rushing water. She would take baths instead of showers, and when she was in a hurry and had to take a shower, she would have to make sure that someone was either in the bathroom with her, or right outside the door. She enjoyed swimming in pools, but taking walks in shallow creeks was horrendous. Someone mentioned to her that this might be a generational curse, and the next day she met with a prayer team. The team found out that her Swedish ancestors had tied people to the bows of ships and had tortured them by the rushing water that would smash into their victims. This curse had been carried down to her since the 1400's (some 30 generations). The curse was renounced, and there was repentance for the actions of her ancestors. The next day, she could feel the change and the freedom that came with it. Since her generational deliverance, she has had no fear of rushing waters. She is able to take showers when she is alone in her house, and nightmares about drowning and being terrified in the water have ceased."

But is going back more than four generations Biblical?

How can sins that go back more than four generations affect us?

It is true the word of God clearly states that sins can go down at least four generations:

Exodus 20:5 - "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me."

(See also Exodus 34:7, Numbers 14:18, Deuteronomy 5:9)

But, how can a curse go down more than four generations?

1. The scripture indicates that some curses go down to ten generations.

Deuteronomy 23:2 - One of illegitimate birth shall not enter the assembly of the Lord, even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of the Lord.

(NIV Study Bible gives this note: Perhaps forever, since ten is symbolic of completeness or finality)

2. Some curses seem to last forever.

Proverbs 17:13 - "If a man pays back evil for good, evil will never leave his house."

1 Samuel 2:31 - [Word given to Eli] "The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your father's house, so that there will not be an old man in your family line."

Jeremiah 23:40 - "I will bring upon you everlasting disgrace - everlasting shame that will not be forgotten."

2 Samuel 12:10 - [Word given to David] "Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own."

3. A curse can go down more than four generations.

If a sin is committed one hundred generations back, it is empowered up to four generations. If that sin is repeated the next generation, it can go down another four generations (therefore now going down five generations). If the sin is empowered in the next generation, then it can go down another four generations - therefore, six generations from the original sin. (Note: The Exodus text does not say that sins can ONLY go down four generations.)

So what do you do if you feel you have generational issues that need to be broken?

  1. Ask the Lord to reveal any generational curse or sin issue.

  2. Ask the Lord how many generations back in the family line this generational curse was first empowered.

  3. Ask the Lord what happened to empower that event.

  4. Renounce, repent, and ask forgiveness for any sin committed in the family line. This is called identification repentance.

  5. Ask the Lord Jesus to cover the family line and the memory or incident with His blood. Renounce and repent for sin related to that event.

  6. Ask the Lord to break all ungodly connections from that event in the generational line to the present.

  7. Demand all evil leave and go wherever Jesus commands them.

  8. End the session with prayer for the cleansing and protection of the Holy Spirit.

Note by Steve Shultz: That's really all there is to it, and if you sit in on one of Paul's one-on-one sessions, these are the steps he will go through. Check out his two books, "Ravens - Unseen Evil, Unwilling Eyes" where Paul tells his story and gives more instruction and "Unwrapping the Gifts" -- I highly recommend both of these books!

"Ravens - Unseen Evil, Unwilling Eyes"

This book is a common story to many of us in ministry. It is the collective experience of a number of individuals. The story is a chronicle of the call God places on certain men and women in Christian service. It is not a call to ministry - that happened years before. This is the call to battle.

"Ravens tells it like it is...the reality and prevalence of demonic strategy and manipulation lying just behind the thin veneer of observable human conversation and conduct. Imperceptible to the human senses, but indisputable in the economy of things spiritual, angelic powers of good and evil press one another for the advantage over the hearts and minds of men. This book should be the starting point for any pastor or serious-minded Christian wanting to understand the 'behind-the-scenes' dynamics of genuine intercession and spiritual warfare!" - Dave Bryan, Pastor Church of Glad Tidings

"Unwrapping the Gifts"
Spiritual Gifts in Prayer Ministry

by
Paul Cox with Julia Pferdehirt

The Body of Christ is crying out for spiritual freedom. Men and women across the globe have entered the battle, gathering on the front lines to pray for deliverance and healing of wounded hearts, minds, and bodies. In Unwrapping the Gifts, Paul L. Cox of Aslan's Place Ministries equips mature believers to understand and use their spiritual gifts effectively and with authority in inner healing and deliverance ministry. Paul brings groundbreaking insight to the role and function of spiritual gifts, especially the often misunderstood gift of discernment, as weapons in the spiritual warfare of prayer ministry.

"This text is the best introduction I've seen describing how the Holy Spirit's gifts flow through a ministry team to bring healing, deliverance, and freedom. The section on the gift of discernment is groundbreaking." – Rev. Dr. John Roddam, Rector: St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Seattle, WA

"Relentless Generational Blessings"
by Arthur Burk
$15.00 Book
In the last decade, there has been significant new teaching on the art of blessing as well as great revelation about the menace of generational curses. The truths in this book on generational blessings occupy a niche between those other two concepts. We not only inherit a toxic waste dump we do not deserve (our generational curses) but we also inherit a gold mine that we have not earned (our generational blessings).

Part one of the book deals with the existing trust fund of blessings.

- What are generational blessings?
- Why do they skip some generations?
- How can someone with godless ancestors have generational blessings?
- How are the accrued blessings released into a given generation?

Part two of the book shows how we can accrue additional blessings for our children so they have more to draw from than we did. Life is not like a Monopoly game where we get $200 every time we go past "Go." A person can be quite devout in their spiritual walk and quite obedient to God without actually accruing many blessings for subsequent generations.

There is, however, a broad cross section of behaviors which flow from a single very specific mindset that allows any generation to create a wider and deeper stream of generational blessings for their children and grandchildren than they had. We can take the activities we are already involved in and modify them slightly so that they are not only accomplishing their original purpose, but they are also accruing blessings for our offspring so that they have more to draw from than we had.

"There really ARE generational curses that MUST be dealt with. But why does the Church speak so little of the greater promise of 'Relentless Generational Blessings?' The Answer? Because most in the Church do not yet know of this subject, nor understand its validity today! But what if you could actually believe that what God wants to do with generational blessings in your life and the life of your children is this...that His blessings would chase you and your children down, jump on your backs, wrestle you to the ground, and force themselves -- the blessings -- on you, and there would be nothing that could stop them? If you believed that, would you want to learn how to cooperate with those blessings to be certain you don't miss them? So did I. I loved this book. It was recommended to me by my friend, Paul Cox. Generational blessings are about to overtake you and jump on your back and never let you or your children go. You just need a few tools to make sure this happens. Those tools, in the form of Biblical knowledge and exquisite teaching, are all in this book, Relentless Generational Blessings! by Arthur Burk. I hope you'll get it. IT'S TIME for the CHURCH to grasp this truth. It's time!" - Steve Shultz, THE ELIJAH LIST, Prophetic.TV
