"The Power of a Seed"
by Sister Ching Co
Cebu City, The Philippines
May 10, 2004 was the election day for our country,
the Philippines. And in the past months of the campaign, we have been bombarded
with different kinds of information coming from all avenues. Many issues were brought
forth, debated, shared, and discussed. Many sectors of society, including the believers,
got stirred up to participate, for they truly desire to to see change happen to
our country.
Now that the election is over and we await the results, what's next for us to do?
As I was pondering upon this matter, the Lord brought back to my mind "the power
of a seed," and how often we failed to grasp the full implication of this and end
up missing a lot of opportunities to affect change in our midst.
A Seed Produces
A seed, of whatever variety, is often small. But once it is planted, well taken
cared of, and given time, has the ability to multiply and to grow beyond any measure
we can imagine. This truth applies not just to a physical seed, but also to "spiritual"
seeds that God has given specially to His people.
We long to experience positive and meaningful changes in our lives, our families,
our churches, our society, our cities, and our nation. And oftentimes because of
the magnitude of the problems we face daily, we begin to feel desperate and, at
times, just surrender to these feelings, thinking that nothing will ever change,
forgetting that we hold in our hands God's seeds which has the power to change the
situations around us.
Today, let us remind ourselves once more that God has given us all the seeds we
need to start sowing, seeds that will one day grow into mighty trees. Trees that
will one day benefit not not just the sower but many others as well.
What are we facing today?
Is it financial distress? Then let us sow seeds of "giving." Let us give of our
time, talent and, yes, finances.
Is it emotional coldness or apathy by those around us? Then let us sow seeds of
"love". A kind word, a smile, a gentle touch...these little acts will help melt
the coldness around us.
Is it fear and despair? Then let's begin sowing seeds of "praise & thanksgiving."
Let's start to look for the positive in people instead of the negative. Let us begin
to thank our children, our friends, our leaders for what they have already done
instead of complaining about what they have failed to do.
Is it doubt and uncertainty? Then try sowing the seeds of "speaking forth God's
promises." The Bible is full of them. Let us begin claiming them one by one.
Is it greed and dishonesty in society? Then try sowing seeds of "integrity and generosity".
Let us practice speaking the truth always even when it hurts. In our work, let us
become good stewards of all things entrusted to us, whether small or big. Let us
not be afraid to go the second mile.
I am confident that whatever the need is in our midst today, God will abundantly
provide us with the right seed to sow.
We Can Be Assured
What we will be led to do today may seem immaterial, if compared to the circumstances
and challenges we are facing whether as a person, a family or a nation. But as we
start sowing where the Lord leads us, we can be assured that one day, whether in
our lifetime or our children's lifetime, these small sowing actions will reap many
beneficial changes.
"To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven.
A time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted. He has made everything beautiful
in its time." (Ecclesiastes 3:1,2b,11a)
"And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint
in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we
shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint. So then, as occasion
and opportunity open up to us, let us do good to all people [not only being useful
or profitable to them, but also doing what is for their spiritual good and advantage].
Be mindful to be a blessing, especially to those of the household of faith [those
who belong to God's family with you, the believers.]" (Galatians 6:9-10)

"Always Enough"
by Roland and Heidi Baker
$12.99 Book |
Is God still
in the business of miracles? Does He still multiply food, send financial resources
where there were none, heal the sick, even raise the dead?
Always Enough shows that all of these things, and more, happen today as they
did in biblical times. Even the most desperate poverty, the most devastating illness
and the most heart-wrenching grief are not beyond His help. As you follow the adventures
of missionaries Rolland and Heidi Baker in Mozambique-ravaged by civil war and famine
to become one of the poorest places on earth-you'll be awed by God's limitless power
and tender provision. The account of how He has enabled the Bakers to help many
hundreds of Mozambique's throwaway children and start an astounding five thousand
churches will warm your heart and move you to tears.
The simple practice of "ministering to the one" and choosing to trust God daily
unleashes great power to change any situation. So come along on the journey! Witness
what God is doing in one of the poorest nations on earth, then invite Him to work
His miracles in your own life.
"What God has done through the anointing of His Spirit in the lives of Rolland and
Heidi Baker is truly miraculous. I know of no other work so pure and so motivated
by the compassionate heart of God. This is not only the story of how God would take
fourteen people and one church and grow it in five years to more than six thousand
churches. It the story of how God would prepare His chosen instruments for the powerful
faith-based ministry that is presently shaking twelve countries in southern Africa."
- Randy Clark, Global Awakening
"It is a great privilege to know, love and have served with Rolland and Heidi Baker.
I know of no others who see so much of heaven's supernatural provision, who exercise
such Kingdom authority and who daily live in absolute dependence on the faithfulness
of God. If you read their story with an open heart, it will forever change yours."
- Guy Chevreau, Catch the Fire, Inc.
"In the fullest sense, Rolland and Heidi Baker are apostolic gifts to the Body of
Christ. They teach, train, heal, pastor and lead a historic, major move of the Holy
Spirit in southeast Africa. But even more endearing than their leadership are their
hearts for God and the hurting and poor. Theirs is truly a marriage and ministry
that not only speaks of Christ Jesus, but exemplifies Christ Jesus." - Marc A.

"Unto the Least of These"
by Nathan Shaw
$11.99 Book |
It is a frightening thing to feel alone in the world.
And in an age of self-reliance it can be difficult for someone who has been left
alone - whether through abandonment or the death of a spouse or parent - to ask
for the help and companionship he or she definitely needs. Widows, divorcees and
the fatherless are some of the loneliest people on earth. The Bible admonishes us
to care for them, yet often we do not know how to aid in the process of their healing
and reintegration into the Body of Christ.
Nathan Shaw has a heart for this disenfranchised portion of Christ's Church and
presents healing words to those who are brokenhearted, as well as a challenge to
all Christians. Whether you lead a church or just want to minister to those who
need it most - or are yourself broken and bruised from the loss of a spouse or parent
- this remarkable book will offer you hope and guide you in practical steps toward
healing.Feel free to
