Question:

Could you define the anointing?

I am saved.

Thank You

Jackie

Steve Shultz on:

The Anointing-- and  "Spiritual Motherhood" too!

Each of us, yourself included---- ARE anointed because you (above) are  saved.

We each have the same Holy Spirit living in us-one we have received Christ into our lives. It's a done deal. If that's not the anointing (as the expression goes), "It'll do until the anointing comes along." (smiling)

When we say someone is "unusually anointed" in a given area, we could just as easily substitute the word "gifted" for "anointed," --it's mainly terminology--or an expression ---more than anything.

Timothy was given some special gifts (only God knows what they were) when Paul laid hands on him and yet Paul encouraged Timothy to "stir up" or  "not neglect" those gifts.

I suppose he meant by his letter [see below] (today it would have been an email to Timothy from Paul) --- for Timothy to be in prayer about his Gifts. For Timothy to act upon them, or a combination of both--- always using his faith to activate what God had already put into Him.

We all have the Same Holy Spirit. But More Can be Accomplished . . ..

Now remember, we ALL have the same Holy Spirit.

And we all have gifts.

But it does appear through scripture that additional or increased gifts can be prophesied over you and/or given to you by the "laying on of hands" of others.

Perhaps hands can be laid on you by an elder.  Or perhaps by a child,  or a spiritual (or actual) father or a mother in the faith? Either way...same answer.

Here's Your "By the Way" for Today

[Hey, here's a "by-the-way." Did you know that Paul had at least one who was like a mother to him? Check this out:   Rom 16:13

"Remember me to Rufus, eminent in the Lord, also to his mother [who has been] a mother to me as well." AMP

Back to the Anointing

It's fascinating to me that Paul told his "son" in the Lord, Timothy twice, ---that is, in two different letters -- not to neglect his gift but rather to stir up the gift.

Don't Neglect Your Gift

1 Tim 4:13-14
"Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you."   (from New International Version)

Stir Up Your Gift

2 Tim 1:5-7
"Therefore I remind you to stir up  [which means to fan into flame] the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."  NKJV

Again, to say that someone has "the anointing" is more like reminding them that they have the Holy Spirit living in them and thus, they are in a secure position, but the fact that we all need to be reminded of the gifts---- of the anointing, means that not even one of us is immune to giving in to fear--or giving up--because of Satan's lies:

1 John 2:26-27

"I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.  As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit-just as it has taught you, remain in him.  (from New International Version)

So be encouraged.

All who are in Christ, are, by that fact --anointed.

I do believe, according to the context of Scripture, that we can stir up or take advantage of the gifts God wants us to operate in by receiving prophetic words from those Gifted by the Lord to prophesy and also from "stirring up" what is already in us.

But I also believe that, because Satan is a liar, we must constantly remind ourselves of that anointing that remains in us, for Satan can NOT take it, the anointing-- away. He can only lie to try to make you Believe you have lost it.

Let's do this. I'll agree with YOU that you have not lost your anointing and YOU agree with GOD for the same thing.

One of my favorite verses of all time is this one:

John 10:27-30
"My sheep [that's you and that's me] listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.  I and the Father are one."  (from New International Version)

blessings,
