An incredible global drama has
accelerated significantly during the short time period between the
Call Kansas City, held on New Years Eve, and the Call LA, being held
February 22 at the Rose Bowl in
Pasadena. As with many of you, the events and the
whirlwind of voices surrounding them left me tremendously perplexed.
Seeking direction from the Lord, I felt strongly impressed this week
to review a word my 12 year-old son had given at the Call KC.
On Christmas evening 2001, the Lord gave
Jonathan a prophetic experience related to the 'tipping of prayer
bowls' during the Call KC. I had shared the word privately with a few
friends previous to the Call. We were all amazed when the page 1
headline of USA Today on the
morning of December 31 read "The
Bowls Runneth Over!"
In due course, Jonathan was invited
onstage to share his vision. In Jonathan's own words:
Christmas Vision
On the night of Christmas I
[Jonathan]
was feeling angry for some reason, and I went into my prayer closet to
go before God. Then I asked Him, "What’s happening?" Then the Lord
said, "We are about tip the bowls; come let Me show you." And we went
into an open field with a massive stone pool (about twelve stories
deep) in the center of the field and large white pillars at the edge
of the field.
At the bottom of the pool were little
puddles, and I asked Him what they are. Then He said to me those are
the tears of the saints stored up and would not dry up, even in the
midst of a drought. He called these
"tears
of the saints
that collected at the
bottom of the pool 'wells of revival' that have refused to dry up.
The Lord said, "We are going to tip the
bowls on the 31st of December. Let Me
give you a demonstration of what We are going to do on that day." And
then two angels came in, each carrying one of the many bowls at the
altar. These bowls were brown and looked as if they were made out of
clay but there were many other bowls at the altar. (The bowls seemed
as wide as a building and about two stories tall.)
Then they lightly tipped the bowls so
it filled one brick level. The brick level was about six inches. He
said this is just a little bit of what is going to happen on the 31st.
If you know
--
the bowls are
the prayers of the saints and all the prayers that have stored up over
all the generations will be released into full measure. You need to
help the angels tip the bowls by believing it can be done.
I feel this means the Lord is going to
bless us, the Call, and he is going to find pleasure to a greater
measure while he swims in our prayers instead of just touching puddles.
Then and Now
God's timing is amazing! Literally to the hour, the time Jonathan
shared at the Call was the 12th anniversary of his
dedication to the Lord as an infant. Also, within a month of his
dedication 12 years ago, our nation went to war with Iraq. Now we're
preparing for war again, seemingly to finish what was started; and my
then-infant child is seeing the tipping of heaven's bowls…
What is God saying?
The Book of Revelation makes clear that
the tipping of heaven's bowls brings both judgment and awakening to
the earth. While meditating on this vision, the Lord impressed upon me
that the 'pool' my son Jonathan saw represented, among other things, the
Rose Bowl in Pasadena, site of the Call LA this Saturday
, the 22nd of February
.
I then remembered that the
New Years
Eve USA Today article headlined 'The Bowls Runneth Over' was actually
a preview of upcoming college football games, including the Rose Bowl!
In God's timetable the prayer bowls that
were 'tipped' on December 31 are going to somehow impact and
accelerate God’s work in southern California during the Call LA. At
the bottom of the pool, Jonathan saw 'wells of revival' constituting
the prayers of the saints that resisted the elements and refused to
dry up, even in drought. To those wells, heaven's resources are again
being poured out.
I believe the parched ground and almost
empty pool represents the spiritual climate not just of California,
but to some measure the revival wells of America as a whole. Some have
seen beyond the mirage of grandeur in the church and have wept for
revival in America. They have sown tears into the parched soil, and
God is intent upon responding with the restoration of rain.
II Chronicles
7:13 describes the spiritual and natural conditions that true
repentance, as modeled in II Chronicles Hour 7:14, heals. "If I shut
up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to
devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My
people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek
My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven,
will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
When Judgment Strikes a Covenant
City
In 1 Chronicles 21, pestilence was
sweeping God's covenant land of Israel due to the sin of its leaders.
By the time the plague reached Jerusalem, 70,000 men had already
succumbed to death. Finally, an angel of the Lord hovered between
earth and heaven, with sword outstretched to destroy Jerusalem, the
very dwelling place of His presence.
When David and the elders saw the angel
hovering over the threshing floor, they entered into wholehearted
repentance, taking ownership of personal and corporate sin and crying
out for their lives to be given in place of the sheep. This selfless
devotion touched the heart of God, and judgment was stayed.
At the bidding of a prophet, David went
to the very threshold of judgment --the threshing floor of Ornan the
Jebusite, where the Angel of the Lord was hovering --purchased it, and
built an altar to the Lord. David sacrificed, and God answered with
fire from heaven, symbolizing the restoration of His manifested
affections and covenant blessings on a land He was about to destroy.
Note that the very place where judgment was arrested became
an alter to the Lord!
A generation later, the Tabernacle of
David was taken to a new level in the form of Solomon’s Temple --built
on this very ground where judgment was averted. There a promise was
made to a people that gave words to what was earlier so dramatically
demonstrated. "If My people, who are
called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive
their sin, and heal their land!"
Isaiah 22: A Time of National
Shaking
[Note by Steve Shultz-- Even this following
paragraph is published with the idea that many, if not most of God's
Shepherd's have God's heart to serve and protect the sheep. Only God
Himself knows which shepherd(s) may not be serving from a true motive]
Like David, shepherds in all fields and
disciplines are being called to the threshing floor at this time. A
looming question on God’s heart is which shepherds are willing to
humble themselves, join in repentance, and lay their lives down for
the sheep --and which are still bent on using the resources of the
sheep for personal gain and isolated protection from the emerging
national calamity. This was the issue in Isaiah 22, when God called
His leadership to "weeping and wailing, to shaving the head and
wearing sackcloth" in a time of governmental shaking. We are now being
asked by God to follow David's example, and embrace a generational
promise for healing given to his offspring. "If My people, who are
called by My name…"
America At The Threshing Floor
Many
leaders, from George Otis Jr to Mike Bickle and Francis Frangipane,
have recently warned that America is potentially at the threshold of
judgment. The alarm clocks of the '911 tragedy,' Enron, and the
prospect of global war have not yet rung so loudly as to awaken the
soul of the American church to wholeheartedness, vigilance, forsaking
of sin and sacrificial love.
Many feel that judgment cannot be
diverted. Indeed, David had no guarantees when he threw himself on the
Lord’s tender mercies. As with David in a moment of national duress,
God is inviting Christians in America to the 'threshing floor' of
national repentance. I personally feel that the Call LA is one of
God’s primary invitations, especially to governmental leadership, for
the perpetuation of His mercy on our land.
A good friend of mine once commented that
we cannot defeat what we embrace. As we prepare to fight natural
Babylon, a predominant theme of the Call LA is to 'come out of Babylon
and be separate --do not participate in her sins!' Let us now separate
ourselves from the seductive arms of spiritual Babylon, and rebuild an
altar of covenant to the Lord Jesus Christ --in our hearts, our
marriages, churches, cities and our nation.
