Minister Stan Smith Dies at Age 59

Julie A. Smith, The Elijah List and GospelSmith Ministries

Editor's Note: Many in the ministry loved minister Stan Smith deeply and prayed for him over the past two years when he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. His wife JoAnn often communicated with us here, at the Elijah List, sending us updates on his health. We mourn the loss of this dear man of God. Let's be praying for his wife JoAnn and family to be greatly comforted by our Lord in their time of loss. -Julie A. Smith, editor of the Elijah List

Minister Stan Smith passed on last Thursday morning, May 3, at the age of 59 years old; he died at home with his wife JoAnn by his side. In early 2010 Stan was diagnosed with a stage 4 cancerous brain tumor. After emergency surgery, he went through radiation and chemo, as he coped with brain cancer for the last two years of his life. During that time the two paramount aims of his life came into clearer focus: he loved God and he loved people.

Since then, Stan and JoAnn have stayed busy. Stan recorded soaking music in a rich prophetic flow at home. He was a passionate worshipper who used his diverse gift-mix to equip the Church. He and his wife JoAnn often ministered together in prophetic teaching and in gifts of prophecy and healing.

After graduating from Pinecrest in 1975, he served faithfully as a Minister of the Gospel for the rest of his life. Stan taught in Bible schools and was a pastor, engaging in prison ministry, inner-city evangelism, and traveled to many nations. Stan often lead soaking meetings at the keyboard, releasing an atmosphere in which people saw visions, gained clear direction, and received deliverance or healing.

He spent the last twelve years of his life in the Central Coast of California with his wife, JoAnn. They also travelled on various mission trips to China, Peru, Korea, Switzerland, England and spoke in many churches across the United States. When Stan was no longer able to travel they planted and pastored a church in Nipomo called The Gathering. He also wrote books and tracts on practical Christianity. Not the least of his gifts was his original musical ability on keyboard, guitar and vocals. He wrote songs and choruses, which are still being sung in congregations to this day.

Stan's Memorial service will be held on May 19, 2012, 11 a.m. at:
Agape Church - 950 Laureate Lane, San Luis Obispo, California 93405
