The Ruach
There is a story in the Old Testament about the prophet Elijah and his successor who became the prophet Elisha. Elisha began his ministry as a servant to Elijah as he was in the field one day plowing twelve yoke of oxen. Elijah approached Elisha and threw his mantle upon him. This was the first time that Elijah passed his mantle to Elisha. The second time was right after Elisha asked for the double-portion anointing and Elijah went up in a whirlwind.
After a season in which Elisha had served Elijah, the Lord was coming to take Elijah. He asked Elisha, "What may I do for you, before I'm taken away?" Elisha responded, "I want a double portion of your spirit (anointing)" (see 2 Kings 2:9). This word for spirit in the original Hebrew context is "ruach," which means "breath," "wind," and "spirit." It denotes the living breath of God, the prophetic spirit, the Spirit of God, the third Person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit who is co-eternal with the Father and the Son.
Elijah replied, "... if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so..." (2 Kings 2:10).
Elijah traveled to several towns asking Elisha to wait behind each time, but he refused and insisted on staying close to Elijah. Then the day came. The first thing Elisha did was take the mantle, strike the water, and ask, "Where is the Lord God of Elijah?" (2 Kings 2:14). When he did, the water was divided and Elisha crossed over. He received the double portion. He now had a ministry of miracles, signs and wonders. But notice that Elisha's ministry did not begin until Elijah's ministry ended. Even after Elisha died and was buried, a man was raised from the dead when his body touched Elisha's bones as it was thrown into his grave (see 2 Kings 13:21).
The Elishas Will Receive a Double-Portion Anointing
Many of you have gone through great distress and are still mourning the loss of prophets, mentors or loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord in the past few years. Maybe you are still looking up, wondering why the Elijahs (those who have been taken up) have gone. The Lord showed me two years ago that the Elishas who have been following the Elijahs are going to receive a double portion of their mantle (anointing). The prophetic sons and daughters will succeed the ministries of their spiritual mentors in the coming days.
There will be an acceleration of that same anointing that was placed on our mentors, and their ceilings will be our floors. There is a mantle of prophetic authority being released. There are prophetic voices being raised up across the country and around the world. They are carrying a new sound and a fresh word, but they understand the sacredness of this holy anointing.
They will have ministries of signs and wonders, and miracles will be performed through their hands as the anointing rests upon them and abides within them. Just as Elijah was fed by the ravens, they will teach others how to be fed supernaturally in times of famine. They will decree a thing and it shall be established, because the LORD will confirm the words that He gives them to speak.
The anointing will be evident on their lives, just as the sons of the prophets recognized that the spirit of Elijah rested on Elisha (see 2 Kings 2:15). Scoffers will ridicule them just as they mocked Elisha, saying, "Go up, you bald head!" (2 Kings 2:23). They were not mocking his physical appearance, but they were mocking his anointing. They were insinuating that he "Go up" in the same way that Elijah went up in a whirlwind with fiery horses and a chariot.
But once again the LORD will defend His messengers and prophets. They are those who know how to call down fire from Heaven to destroy the works of Baal. Through their decrees and declarations, they will thwart the strategies of the kingdom of darkness. They know how to dismantle his works of mass destruction and destroy the plans coming from the camp of the evil one.
They walk in divine wisdom, release unprecedented revelation, and have keen discernment. The sword of the Lord will be in their mouths, and they will be tenacious and unwavering in their faith because their strength is in Jesus. They are those who follow Him closely and will not deviate off the narrow path. The Holy Spirit will lead them and give them supernatural wisdom and direction when the river dries up. They are the ones who will receive a double-portion anointing. Supernatural encounters and signs will follow those who believe, and many shall be used mightily in the days ahead.
"Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into Heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, 'My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!' So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, 'Where is the LORD God of Elijah?' And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over." (2 Kings 2:11-14)
"... Touch not Mine anointed, and do My prophets no harm." (Psalm 105:15)
"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse." (Malachi 4:5-6)
