Jennifer Eivaz: "You're a King, So Make the Decree"

by Jennifer Eivaz
Nov 13, 2015

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

We recently finished a conference at Harvest Christian Center in Turlock, CA, which is Ron and Jennifer Eivaz's church. Derene and I had a great time with them!

This is a most excellent word for the Body of Christ in this hour about "making decrees" and our authority to do so! How many of you have some areas in your life that you need to make some decrees in? I'm sure we ALL do!

Jennifer shares here:

We've been born again into God's Kingdom as well as fully empowered to be successful in His Kingdom. Everything starts with prayer, and one of the power tools of prayer is our ability to "make a decree". Making a decree causes the blessings of Heaven to be released from heavenly places into our natural realm. We decree our peace, we decree our health, we decree salvation to our families, our destiny, favor, wisdom, financial abundance and stability, etc. If He said it in His Word, then it's ours and it's "decree-able."

Read this powerful word by Jennifer and get some keys on your authority in Christ to make decrees over any hopeless and dark situations!

A Testimony of "Fashion Share"

We needed a tremendous amount of clothing. Not just any clothing, but business attire for women to wear for job interviews and on the job, including accessories and shoes. We were spearheading an outreach called Fashion Share, which included a fancy lunch, a fashion show, testimonies of faith, and a free shopping spree to our "store."

I discovered in the middle of the project that my clothing director was struggling with having faith for her piece of the project. "I don't see how we're going to get enough clothing, especially this kind of clothing," she remarked with frustration. Something in me knew that the clothing would come. "Watch this," I said, as I took her with me to stand outside of our church building. I grabbed her by the hand and spoke out loud into the air, "In Jesus' name, I command the clothing to come!" I then reassured her that everything was on its way. Sure enough, we had an abundance come in from personal donations to store donations, with plenty of accessories and shoes to go with it. When I made that spiritual command, I wasn't engaging in Christian hocus-pocus to get my wishes accomplished. I knew inside my heart that Jesus was backing this project and that I had what I needed even before I had it. I simply stepped out in my Kingdom authority and made a kingly decree. I decreed the clothing to come, and it did.

What is a Decree?

In Matthew 6:10 Jesus teaches us to pray for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. In other words, when we pray for His will to be done, then His Kingdom will be established as a result. When we pray amiss of His will or we don't bother to pray at all, His Kingdom doesn't come. It's an awesome yet sobering thought that we really have that much authority.

If He said it in His Word, then it's ours and it's "decree-able." A decree is defined as an official order issued by a legal authority. Naturally speaking, a decision made by order of the court supersedes the desire or opinion of the defendant, whether it's a fine, a denial of driving privileges, or even a jail sentence. Job 22:28 instructs us saying, "Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways."

The Hebrew word for decree in this passage (gazar) is a command that not only establishes something but also divides and cuts something down at the same time. The powerful promise for making a decree is that the light of God will shine upon all our ways. In other words, the decree cuts away and destroys anything from the kingdom of darkness that has been purposed against you.

You are Royalty

To make a decree with faith, we have to know that we know that we are royalty in the Kingdom of God as well as on the earth. "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9). This verse describes us as chosen, royal, holy, and a special people unto God.

In the Book of Revelation, it elaborates further that God has made us to be kings and priests and we will reign on the earth (see Revelation 1:6, 5:10). Let's think this through. God has made you and I kings! This was not our choice but His choice. We had nothing to do with the matter, but we don't deny it either. The Bible also describes Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords (see 1 Timothy 6:15; Revelation 19:16). In my mind, I had limited this thought to just those that led nations and secular governments. I came to realize, however, that the kings whom Jesus is King over includes us! We are designated kings in Heaven and on the earth, and as kings we MAKE THE DECREE. (Photo by Donna Smallenberg "CHOSEN (Esther 4:14)" via elijahshopper.com)

We Make the Decree in Faith

When we make a decree, we actually say it out loud because the spiritual realm must hear it in order to obey it. A decree is not a passive, silent, done-only-in-our-own-minds type of effort. You make the decree, which is the wisdom of God, before the angels, as well as the powers and principalities (see Psalm 103:20; Ephesians 3:10). Your decree sets the spiritual realm in motion, just like God's Word had originally set creation into motion. By our words we can initiate life or death, and the decrees that we believe and speak out loud will be established (see Proverbs 18:20; Mark 11:23). It's all because of Christ and through Him we are now that powerful.

Sometimes we feel like our decrees have failed because things haven't happened instantly. Just like a plant needs time to grow before it bears fruit, our decrees are released in seed form into the spiritual realm requiring various amounts of time to grow. How do we water the seeds of our decrees? By reminding the spiritual realm of their orders.

God said to, "Put Me in remembrance..." (Isaiah 43:26) and to "Ask Me of things to come...and...command Me" (Isaiah 45:11). These are shocking and awesome truths from the Word of God. Here He actually commands us to "Put Him in remembrance." At the same time, He invites us to ask Him of things to come and then command Him to do it!

How do we put Him in remembrance and how do we command Him to do His promises? We do this by making decrees to the spirit realm, which are simultaneously done in the presence of our Father in Heaven.

Joshua demonstrates this during his battle with the Amorites. Joshua had a promise from God of victory. When opportunity came to defeat them, he needed more daylight to accomplish it. In the presence of the Lord and in the presence of all Israel, Joshua boldly commands the sun and the moon to stand still and they did (see Joshua 10:12). Joshua went on to defeat the Amorites because he was given enough daylight to finish the job. Like Joshua, we can rest assured that our decrees from His Word will be stamped in the court of Heaven as, "Yes and Amen" (see 2 Corinthians 1:20). (Photo via Pixabay)

We Can Void the Decree With Our Words

If our decrees are made by our words, then our decrees can be voided by our words. Again, death and life are in the power of the tongue (see Proverbs 18:21). This is a spiritual law, and spiritual laws are not relegated to our understanding of them. They operate even when we don't understand, and this is where we can experience some real failures.

Our God, who calls things that are not as though they were, is challenging us to use our words wisely when addressing the spirit realm. It's because we are more powerful than we think. If you decreed something with your words, then don't undo it with your words. James describes the man who doubts his prayer, in this case doubts his decree, made before the Lord: "For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways" (James 1:7-8).

Our son was diagnosed with a neurological disorder at the age of four that severely affected his ability to speak and comprehend language. At the time of diagnosis, he couldn't even say his name! In addition to a tremendous amount of prayer and fasting, he was in therapy five days a week, and continued in therapy for seven years.

At the onset of this ordeal, my husband and I had made a firm decree about his healing. Even though we had made a firm decree, it didn't mean that we never discussed his symptoms or his diagnosis with medical staff and others along the journey. But to the spirit realm and before our heavenly Father, we never changed our decree, even in tough seasons where healing seemed out of reach. Our words remained the same: "Our son is healed in Jesus' name!" (Photo by Linda Harris-Iorio "Little Prince" via elijahshopper.com)

Our son turns 13 in January, and I'm blessed to announce that he is completely healed, fluent in speech, and fully mainstreamed, no longer needing special education or resource support. This was a God-given miracle given how severe his condition was. That's the power, and the process, of the decree!
